Kurdish forces prevent Iraqi troops from entering disputed border area
Iraqi Kurdish security forces have prevented Iraqi government soldiers from reaching a disputed area that borders Syria.
Baghdad sent the Iraqi army division to protect the border.
But it's a sensitive area - both the Kurds and the Iraqi government claim the territory.

Following days of tension between Kurdish and Iraqi armed forces close to the Syrian border, a peaceful solution might have emerged.
ReplyDeleteDiscussions have turned to activating a joint committee that would coordinate the movement of Kurdish and Iraqi troops in the so-called disputed territories.
Shwan Taha, a Kurdish lawmaker in Iraqi Parliament, said the committee’s role has been weakened since the departure of U.S. troops late last year.
